The Sigma Corporation (COO: Kazuto Yamaki) is pleased to announce the new Sigma DP2 compact digital camera featuring a 14 megapixel FOVEON X3 direct image sensor (2,652 × 1,768 × 3 layers) as used in the Sigma SD14 digital SLR.
Sigma introduced the DP1 with a direct image sensor as used in the Sigma SD14 digital SLR to the market in March 2008 as a “unique, groundbreaking, compact digital camera with all the power of a digital SLR”. The multi award winning DP1 has established strong support from a wide range of photographers both amateur and professional.
Building on this success, the DP2 is equipped with a 24.2mm F2.8 lens, equivalent to 41mm on a 35mm SLR camera, for increasing creative possibilities and superior image quality, improving handling and performance.
After the launch of DP2 camera, it enable users to continue to enjoy the image quality of the DP1 camera for wide focal length photography and also take advantage of the DP2’s standard focal length.

Sigma DP2s
A year later, the DP2s arrived with a few notable features:
- Faster auto focus: Also improved in the original via firmware
- Power Save Mode: When the LCD is sleeping, this will also remove electronic power from the sensor. This makes the camera slower to wake from sleep.
- Red labelling on the back of the camera as the engravings on the buttons are hard to read

The Sigma DP2s is the successor to the DP2 which was introduced to market in April 2009 and incorporates a new AF algorithm, a Power Save Mode and a new rear design. The new AF algorithm provides high speed auto focusing, ensuring convenient shooting. The Power Save Mode lowers the battery consumption. When this mode is enabled, a greater number of pictures can be taken with a single charge of the battery. The new rear design aids quick recognition of the controls. The addition of red markings has been used to enable easier operation of the cameras controls.

Sigma DP2x
Another year later, Sigma released the DP2x with the Analog Front End (AFE) and even faster(?) auto focus. AFE was supposed to provide better colour rendition than previous models. There was consternation in the Sigma forums on the true benefits and whether this actually led to more blown highlights.
2011.02.08...The new Sigma DP2x is the latest DP2 series model and incorporates AFE (Analog Front End) and high speed auto focus.AFE is also used in the DP1x compact digital camera and SD15 digital SLR and converts full color data, which the FOVEON X3® capture system records, into a digital signal. This enables the camera to reproduce high definition and richly colored images. In addition, the new AF algorithm provides high speed auto focus, ensuring convenient shooting.
Through a firmware update, this model gained the ability to save RAW+JPEG
